The same candle earns different money on Etsy, at a market, on your own site and in a shop. Put in your prices once and see all four side by side, after fees, shipping and booth rent.

“You keep” is profit after your true cost, which already includes your pay. Shipping is what you charge minus what you pay. Fee defaults are US rates as of October 2026 (Etsy, Square in person, a typical online checkout); change them to match yours. Sales tax isn’t included.

How it works

keep = price − fees − cost + (shipping charged − shipping paid)

Etsy fees: listing fee + transaction % and processing % on item plus shipping, + the per-order processing fee. Market: card fee on the share paid by card, plus the booth fee split over the candles you sell.

Worked example

A $23 candle that costs $6.61, shipped for $6 that really costs $7.50. On Etsy the order is $29: fees $0.20 + $1.89 + $0.87 + $0.25 = $3.21, so you keep $11.69. Through Offsite Ads, another $4.35 goes: $7.34.

At a $75 market selling 30: $0.75 card fee and $2.50 of booth each, so $13.14, and 5 candles pay for the booth. Wholesale at $11.50 leaves $4.89.

Reading the table

Wholesale always keeps the least per candle; it pays back in volume and no fees or packing. If a channel shows red, the price doesn’t cover the cost there. Raise the price, charge real shipping, or drop that channel for this candle.
